The results of 14 years and 100 DipECHO projects summarized at the Center

In order to support the population and the governments of Central Asia in their quest to prevent and mitigate the effects of natural disaster, the Directorate of the European Commission on European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (DG ECHO) has launched Program for the Prevention of Natural Disasters (DipECHO) in 2003. On November 9-10 14 years of the program in Central Asia and about 100 DipECHO projects was summed up the Center. The EU Ambassador to Kazakhstan Mr. Traian Hristea, Head of ECHO for Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the Pacific, Ms Androulla Kaminara, representatives of partner organizations and diplomatic missions participated in this event. 10-phases of the program were implemented by DipECHO partners such as the National Red Cross societies of Central Asian countries, the UN Children’s Fund, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, United Nations Development Program. Over 14 years of DipECHO program conducted seismic strengthening of buildings of educational institutions, safe behavior trainings of the population during disasters, improving emergency preparedness and more.
