Regional Forum – Meeting of Heads of Emergency Authorities of Central Asia Held in Almaty

On April 27, 2018 the leaders and representatives of the emergency authorities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, diplomatic missions, international and non-governmental organizations, the International Civil Defense Organization discussed important issues on strengthening and improving cooperation in the field of emergency situations, such as the Regional emergency response mechanism, Regional registry of forces and means, the establishment of the Regional Scientific and Technical Council.

The Heads of delegations signed the Protocol. Decisions will strengthen the preparedness to respond to major cross-border emergencies in the region of Central Asia.

One of the adopted decisions was to grant the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction the status of Secretariat Regional Forum. Secretariat will provide information and analytical, organizational and technical support of the Forum.

Additionally, Regional Forum participants reviewed the proposal of the International Civil Defense Organization to establish a Central Asian subsystem of the World network to combat catastrophes, under the International Monitoring and Coordination Center.
