On participation in the Forum on financial protection from natural disasters in Central Asia

On February 26–27, 2019 in Almaty, representatives of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction took part in the Forum on Financial Protection from Natural Disasters in Central Asia (hereinafter – the Forum).

The purpose of the Forum is to raise awareness of the fiscal risks posed by disasters to governments and the population, and to familiarize with best practices in the field of financial disaster preparedness in Central Asia and beyond.

The Forum organized by the World Bank was attended by delegations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Armenia, who exchanged views and experiences on financial protection and insurance against the risks of natural disasters in their countries.

The organizers invited leading experts in housing and property insurance, agricultural insurance from Spain, India, Turkey, etc.

The Director of the Center made a presentation on the activities of the Center and expressed readiness to provide all-round support in promoting the issue of financial protection against natural disasters at the regional level.

All participants of the Forum, including representatives of the Center, took an active part in the Forum, shared their experiences and discussed the problematic issues of creating reserve funds and insurance.
