Center and IOM Held a Regional Workshop in Turkmenistan

On April 23 – 24, 2019 International Organization for Migration (IOM) – The UN agency for Migration in cooperation with the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction organized a regional thematic seminar Migrants in countries in crisis (MICIC) on the topic “Protection of citizens in times of crisis” in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan). The event was attended by representatives of the emergency departments and consular services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Central Asian countries and Afghanistan, as well as the staff of the Center.

The purpose of the seminar was to strengthen regional capacity to address the needs of migrants in the countries in crisis, by examining possibilities of cooperation between the Central Asian countries.

The participants raised their awareness of the institutions tasked to help fellow citizens living and working abroad in the event of crisis situations in the host country, acquainted with the leadership MICIC and key actors that are relevant to the protection of migrants in disaster, as in the host countries and in the home countries. His theoretical knowledge of the participants skillfully used during practical classes.

Within the seminar representatives of the Center held a meeting with a representative of the Afghan National Directorate for Disaster Management Mohammadi Mohammad Omar. During the meeting the sides discussed matters of further cooperation of the Center with the emergency department of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
