Center Participated in Global Platform 2019

On May 13-17, 2019 in Geneva, (Switzerland), a Center’s delegation led by the Director participated in the sixth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. The Global Platform was an important step in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction until 2030.

The session discussed the results of the work to reduce losses from natural disasters, as well as new and existing challenges in the field of disaster management.

More than 3,000 high-level officials of government agencies, international and non-governmental organizations, and representatives of stakeholders from around the world attended the Global Platform session and shared best practices in disaster risk reduction.

The delegation of the Center took the opportunity and held a series of meetings with heads of international organizations and heads of state emergency authorities of the Central Asian countries.

Thus, the Center discussed expanding the number of member-states with the heads of delegations of Mongolia, Moldova, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Major-General T. Badral, the head of the Mongolian National Emergency Management Agency, expressed interest in cooperating with the Center and announced that at present time the accession to the Center is under consideration by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.

Center also exchange of views on further enhancing cooperation with leaders and representatives of international organizations (UNISDR, UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub, Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI), International Civil Defense Organization, Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, UNECE Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents). The UN representatives were actively interested in the achievements of the Center and agreed that besides the implementation of joint projects, the strengthening of the Center’s capacity and the expansion of the Center’s membership are also relevant.

We also note that on the Global Platform’s Ignite stage for brief presentations, a video about the Center was shown for several days.
