Working meeting with representatives of WFP UN and CAREC

On March 5, the Center hosted a working meeting with representatives of the UN World Food Program in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia.

During the working meeting, participants got acquainted with the activities of the Center and its priorities for the future.

The Director of the Center, Mr. S. Aubakirov, provided information on the measures being taken to create a Central Asian regional early warning system for emergency situations.

Based on the results of the meeting, the parties agreed to begin working on concluding a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the parties.

Based on the results of the meeting, the parties identified pressing issues for cooperation:

1. Introduction of innovative approaches to risk management, assessment, modeling and mapping.

2. Submitting an application to the adaptation fund on the issue of an early warning system for emergencies.

3. Proactive actions.

Head of the Department for Climate Change Adaptation and DRR of WFP Kyrgyzstan, Ms. Zarangez Makhmudova, positively assessed the results of the Center’s activities in the field of disaster risk reduction and expressed interest in further cooperation and implementation of joint projects.
