An enlarged meeting of the technical working group on the creation of a regional early warning system was held

An extended meeting of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on establishment of a regional early warning system with participation of representatives of national hydrometeorological services of Central Asian countries was held on April 15-16, 2025 on the basis of the Center.

The meeting was organized by the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (CESRR) within the framework of the regional project “Climate Risk Management in Central Asia”, implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Government.

During the meeting, the project experts presented for consideration the following materials developed under the project:

Recommendations on improving the mechanism of exchange of hydrometeorological information between the national hydrometeorological services of the Central Asian countries;

Proposals on exchange of information on dangerous hydrometeorological phenomena in transboundary territories between emergency agencies of the countries of the region;

Concept for the creation of the Regional Early Warning System.

As a result of the discussion, the participants approved the following documents:

  • Initial draft of the Protocol of Intentions between emergency agencies of CA countries on mutual informing in case of transboundary emergencies;
  • Initial draft of the Protocol of Intentions between hydrometeorological services on storm warnings and hazardous phenomena;
  • Initial draft of the Concept of creation of the regional early warning system;
  • Initial draft of the Road Map on the stages of creation of this system.

In general, the participants of the meeting noted the importance of the steps taken under the project aimed at creating a sustainable and effective regional early warning system. These measures are intended to contribute to improving the level of security of the population and territories of the Central Asian countries.
