As a key partner, the Center participated in the third meeting of the Steering Committee of the GIZ project

On December 11, 2024, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) organized and held the third meeting of the Steering Committee of the Regional Program “Climate Risk Management in Central Asia” (hereinafter referred to as the Regional Program) in Tashkent. The Center participated in the event as a key GIZ partner in Central Asia.

The goal of the Regional Program is to improve the management of transboundary climate and disaster risks in Central Asia.

During the event, the Director of the Regional Program, Mr. S. Makarov, provided an overview of the work completed under the GIZ project. Representatives of interested organizations from Central Asian countries also presented progress achieved in collaboration with the Regional Program.

As the implementing partner of the Program for Component II, the Center presented participants with detailed information on the work carried out in 2024.

Under the joint project of the Center and GIZ, "Strengthening the Potential for Safe Management of Transboundary Water Resources in Central Asia through the Use of Innovative Information and Communication Technologies," field studies were conducted in transboundary river basins in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan. The studies aimed to explore the feasibility of establishing a transboundary early warning system for hydrological disaster risks. Based on the findings, project experts developed recommendations for improving existing hydrological monitoring and early warning systems in transboundary river basins.

Additionally, as part of the project, the following were prepared:

  • Recommendations for improving the mechanism for exchanging hydrometeorological information between hydrometeorological services in Central Asian countries.
  • An analytical overview of the state of early warning systems in Central Asian countries.
  • An analytical report on the availability and condition of hydrological monitoring systems in selected transboundary river basins in the region.

For 2025, the Center plans the following activities as part of the joint GIZ project:

  • Conducting a series of training sessions for representatives of hydrometeorological services and emergency ministries.
  • Developing proposals for integrating national hydrological models into a unified regional system.
  • Conducting field studies in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
