Center, GIZ, and Kazhydromet Discuss Continued Implementation of Regional Project

On August 27, 2026, a working meeting was held in Astana within the framework of Phase II of the joint regional project by the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (CESDRR) and GIZ, titled "Strengthening Capacity for Safe Management of Transboundary Water Resources in Central Asia Through Innovative Information and Communication Technologies."

The meeting brought together Aibol Akparov, Head of the Emergency Department at CESDRR, Aigerim Bolatova, GIZ Water Resources Advisor, and Danara Alimbayeva, Director General of RSE "Kazhydromet" and Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

• ICT & Early Warning Systems: Focused on integrating modern information and communication technologies into transboundary water management, enhancing hydrometeorological data exchange, and upgrading early warning mechanisms for water-related risks.
• Kazhydromet's Role: Detailed Kazhydromet’s participation in upcoming project activities, particularly expanding data-sharing protocols, refining hydrometeorological monitoring, and advancing digital tools for assessing transboundary water risks.
• Regional Impact: Reaffirmed the commitment to establishing robust monitoring and early warning systems to foster long-term cooperation and safe transboundary water management across Central Asia.

This meeting served as a vital platform to strengthen operational ties among CESDRR, GIZ, and Kazhydromet, ensuring Kazakhstan's national hydrometeorological service actively drives these regional initiatives forward.
