Experts from emergency agencies of Central Asian countries discussed and agreed upon practical measures and initiatives to further develop and strengthen cooperation in disaster risk reduction and emergency response preparedness
On August 27, the Working Group (Experts) of the Regional Forum – Meeting of Heads of Emergency Authorities of Central Asian Countries held a meeting at the Center's headquarters in Almaty.
The event was organized by the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction, supported by UNDP, the IFRC, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Central Asian experts discussed and agreed upon the following draft documents to be presented at the upcoming Regional Forum – Meeting of Heads of Emergency Authorities of Central Asian Countries scheduled for October this year:
- Draft Concept of the Regional Forum – Meeting of Heads of Emergency Authorities of Central Asian Countries (Tashkent, Uzbekistan, October 19–21, 2026, chaired by Uzbekistan);
- Draft Regional Concept for Increasing the Resilience of Central Asian Cities to Disaster and Climate Risks until 2030;
- Draft Regional Roadmap for Mitigating Transboundary Mudflows and Floods;
- Proposals for Establishing a Regional Mechanism for International Response to Large-Scale and Transboundary Emergencies.
The experts acknowledged and approved the implementation results and final draft documents of the following regional initiatives:
- UNDP Regional Project: "Strengthening Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Systems in Central Asia";
- UNDP Regional Project: "Building Urban Resilience to Disasters and Climate Change in Central Asia";
- GIZ Regional Program: "Climate Risk Management in Central Asia."
These documents are designed to implement practical measures to expand and deepen regional cooperation in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and emergency response preparedness, particularly for transboundary events. They address key areas including improving information exchange, joint disaster risk assessments, implementing DRR and climate adaptation programs, enhancing awareness of existing and emerging risks, and advancing Central Asian cooperation in DRR and emergency management to a higher qualitative level.
The Central Asian countries expressed their commitment to intensifying joint efforts and pursuing coordinated regional actions to achieve a higher level of cooperation aligned with the region's vital interests in sustainable development.
