GIZ provides assistance in strengthening the technical capacity of the Center
Within the framework of the program "Climate Risk Management in Central Asia" the German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) has purchased and transferred to the Center modern equipment: a drone, computers, as well as LED-screen for the conference hall in order to strengthen the Center's capacity. In addition, within the framework of cooperation, high-performance server equipment was purchased and will be installed in the Center in the nearest future.
The Center plans to use UAVs and computers in field studies of transboundary river basins in Central Asia to assess transboundary disaster risk through aerial surveys, post-flight data processing, preparation of orthophotos and 3D digital terrain models. At the same time, a huge amount of data obtained in the course of field studies, as well as from river basin organizations, hydrometeorological services and emergency agencies of the countries of the region will be placed on the new server.
In addition, technical modernization of the conference hall already allows to conduct trainings and events of regional scale at the appropriate level by displaying information on LED screen with high resolution and the possibility of segmenting the screen, which in turn has a positive impact on the assessment of the level of events and in general has a positive effect on the promotion of climate risk management in the Central Asian region.
Acquisition of modern equipment will allow to carry out work in all countries of the region in time: to identify existing transboundary risks, and to come up with solutions to create a transboundary early warning system for hydrological disasters. This, in turn, will facilitate the introduction of an early warning system in transboundary sections of the Syr Darya and Amu Darya river basins.
In the future, the purchased equipment will be actively used in the implementation of regional projects, including other projects with GIZ.
"This is an important measure for us in strengthening the technical capacity of the Center and providing the necessary resources to implement activities to improve climate and disaster risk management in the region” - concluded the Director of the Center, Mr. Serik Aubakirov.
