Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of the UN office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), visited the Center as part of a working visit

On April 25, 2026, Mr. Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of UNDRR, visited the Center to learn about its activities.

The meeting was also attended by Ms. Natalia Alonso Cano, Head of the UNDRR Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, and Samal Bekmaganbetova, UNDRR National Focal Point for Kazakhstan.

Dzergalbek Ukashev, Director of the Center, provided detailed information on the Center’s activities, including key initiatives and priority areas of work. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of innovative information and communication technologies in climate change adaptation and disaster risk management processes. Regional projects in the field of disaster risk reduction, implemented jointly with partners, were also presented.

During his visit, Mr. Kamal Kishor spoke highly of the Center’s achievements, noting the relevance of its ongoing initiatives and the significant amount of work accomplished in a short period of time, and reaffirmed the UNDRR commitment to continuing support for the Center and to developing cooperation in the field of disaster risk reduction in Central Asia, including responses to natural and climate-related hazards such as extreme heat and sandstorms.

During the visit, the UNDRR delegation also met with Meruert Kulakhmetova, External Advisor to the Minister of Emergency Situations on Inclusion, and civil society representatives. During the discussion, UNDRR's continued support for disability inclusion initiatives in Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries was discussed.
