Personnel of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense and other state institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan enhanced knowledge in disaster risk management.

The experts from CESDRR (the Center) delivered a training on mainstreaming the disaster risk management in government institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan from 13 to 16 of July 2021. The training was delivered within the framework of the National Disaster Risk Management Project (NDRMP) and an agreement on the provision of capacity strengthening services to the government institutions. The event was held jointly with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) at the Republican Training and Methodological Center of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan (CoES and CD under the GoT) in Dushanbe city.

NDRMP project is implemented by the international consulting company EPTISA and managed by the Project Implementation Group of the CoES & CD with support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) grant.

Total 25 senior personnel of the CoES & CD and heads of the Disaster Management units of the national ministries and institutions participated in the training.  This includes: Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Transport and Agency on Hydrometrology of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

During the training, the participants learned about the basic terms, concepts, and important aspects of the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), gained knowledge on mainstreaming of DRM and CCA practices into national policies, programs and plans and developed skills to further outreach and raise awareness of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on the topic.

Within the framework of this agreement, the Center jointly with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) plans to conduct a series of events through October 2021 that are aimed at strengthening the capacity of government institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan on DRM and CCA practices.
