Recommendations on unification of basic concepts in national standards of Republic of Kazakhstan presented by the Center in wash

On June 28 of this year in the videoconference mode, within the framework of the joint project with UNICEF "Capacity building of the sectors of emergency situations, health, education, social protection, internal affairs on the Core Commitments for Children in Emergencies", the Center held a working meeting with officials of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan on presentation of recommendations on unification of basic concepts in the national standards of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion (WASH).

The working meeting was held with the participation of Head of the Department of mobilization work and civil protection of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Zhabagibaev, sanitary doctor of the Department of Sanitary and Hygienic Monitoring of the branch of the Scientific and Practical Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Expertise and Monitoring Galiya Nurkhairovna Alibekova, as well as the coordinator of programs on climate change and emergency preparedness of UNICEF in the Republic of Kazakhstan Anna Vyacheslavovna Stativkina.

The experts of the Center presented:

- Brief results of the UNICEF project "Capacity Building of Emergency, Health, Education, Social Protection, Internal Affairs Sectors on Core Commitments for Children in Emergencies";

- Review of existing tools on access to water, sanitation and hygiene in emergencies;

- Recommendations on amendments and additions to the norms of minimum life support for the population in the emergency zone;

- Recommendations on unification of basic concepts in the national standards of the RK in the field of WASH in emergencies in accordance with the main international standards.

Head of the Department of Mobilization and Civil Protection of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Zhabagibaev thanked the experts of the Center for their work and noted that the developed recommendations will be taken into account in future work.

The meeting showed the interest of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the work carried out by the Centre within the framework of the UNICEF project in the Republic of Kazakhstan on harmonization of national legislation on child protection in the humanitarian context.
