The Center co-organized Partnership Dialogue on Disaster Risk Reduction
A Partnership Dialogue on Disaster Risk Reduction was held on 25 June 2024 in Astana with the participation of representatives of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, international organizations, and UN Country Offices in Kazakhstan, organized by the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan together with the CESDRR.
Recent floods that have had a serious negative impact on several regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan have prompted international organizations to jointly discuss ways to cooperate in disaster risk reduction and strengthen government support in this area.
Moreover, the meeting provided the international community with a chance to learn about the government priorities in the area of DRR, get an overview of the CESDRR’s mandate, share key existing initiatives.
During the event Mr. Rustambek Amrin, Head of the Department for Prevention of Emergency Situations of the MES of Kazakhstan, delivered a welcoming speech, Ms. Kunsulu Tassybaeva, Chief Specialist of the Department, informed the participants about the main priorities of the Government of of Kazakhstan in the field of disaster risk reduction.
In turn, the CESDRR Director, Mr. Serik Aubakirov informed the participants about the measures taken by the Center aimed at ensuring resilience and disaster preparedness of Central Asian countries, as well as outlined the main priority initiatives of the Center in the field of DRR and climate change adaptation.
In addition, representatives of international organizations informed the participants about the current activities of their organizations in the field of disaster risk reduction and potential projects in Kazakhstan in the future.
Thus, the information provided by the MES of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the government's priorities confirmed the alignment with the Center's key initiatives in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
