The Center Participated in a Forum on the Development of Volunteering and International Cooperation

The United Nations has proclaimed 2026 the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development. The relevant UN General Assembly resolution, A/RES/78/127, was adopted on 18 December 2023. Kazakhstan was one of the initiators of this initiative, which aims to recognize the contribution of volunteerism to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthening international cooperation.

On 7–8 October 2026, a forum dedicated to the development of volunteering and international cooperation was held in Astana. The event was attended by D. Ukashev, Director of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (CESDRR), and S. Muratbekova, Chief Expert of the Center.

As part of the forum, a high-level dialogue was held with the participation of CESDRR Director D. Ukashev. During the discussion, he emphasized the importance of volunteerism in emergency prevention, enhancing public preparedness to respond to hazards, and fostering a culture of safety.

Particular attention was paid to the role of volunteerism in bringing together the efforts of government agencies, international organizations, and civil society to strengthen disaster resilience and reduce disaster risks.

On the sidelines of the forum, a number of meetings were also held with representatives of international and national organizations. These included a meeting with Lilia Bilous, Head of the Country Cluster Delegation for Central Asia of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and Nurgali Arystanov, Chairman of the Management Board of the KazAID Agency.

Establishing professional contacts with relevant organizations creates additional opportunities to advance humanitarian cooperation, exchange experience, and implement joint initiatives aimed at reducing disaster risk.

The Center’s participation in such international events contributes to strengthening regional partnerships, expanding professional cooperation, and advancing comprehensive approaches to ensuring the safety of the populations of Central Asian countries.
