The Center participated in the Central Asian Conference on Climate Change

The Central Asian Conference on Climate Change (CACCC 2025), organized by the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC), was held from 13 to 14 May 2025 in the Ashgabat city.

The event brought together experts from various sectors from across the region to discuss the current challenges of climate change and to find joint solutions and adaptation strategies. The conference was supported by GIZ and a number of other partners, who also made meaningful contributions to shaping the thematic agenda.

The first day of the conference featured a panel session on regional cooperation on climate change and climate justice. During the session, Mr. Djergalbek Ukashev, Acting Director of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction, presented information on the progress of the joint project of the Center and GIZ on the establishment of a transboundary regional early warning system for hydrological disasters. Special emphasis was placed on improving mechanisms for exchange of hydrometeorological information between national hydrometeorological services and emergency agencies of the countries of the region.

“Improved interaction between hydrometeorological services and emergency agencies of Central Asian countries will help to timely identify risks of floods, mudflows and other hydrometeorological phenomena in order to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable territories in the region,” said Mr. Djergalbek Ukashev.

The Conference focused on making progress on climate change mitigation and adaptation. One of the key topics was climate finance - in particular, the issues of mobilizing sufficient resources, their effective use and harmonization of financial policies to achieve climate goals. CACCC 2025 also emphasized the potential of Central Asia in transitioning to greener, cleaner and climate-resilient development while ensuring water and energy security.
