The Center Participated in the Inception Seminar of the Climate Risk Management Project in Tajikistan
Dushanbe, 11 August 2026. Representatives of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (CESDRR) participated in the inception seminar of the Climate Risk Management Project in Tajikistan.
The event brought together representatives of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence of the Republic of Tajikistan, government authorities and relevant institutions, international organizations, and development partners. The discussions focused on strengthening national and regional capacities in climate risk management and disaster risk reduction.
The project aims to enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities to the impacts of climate change and natural hazards, while strengthening institutional and local capacities for integrated climate risk management. It also focuses on improving risk assessment and data management, monitoring and early warning systems, preparedness and anticipatory action, as well as developing social protection mechanisms and climate risk financing.
The seminar featured presentations on the results of the project’s preparatory phase, followed by discussions on its key components, inter-agency coordination mechanisms, and the next steps for implementation.
A dedicated session focused on regional knowledge and experience sharing in disaster risk reduction as an important tool for developing and implementing effective climate risk management solutions.
During the session, CESDRR Director Dzhergalbek Ukashev presented approaches to strengthening regional knowledge and experience sharing, as well as proposals to enhance coordination and cooperation among relevant authorities in Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and other Central Asian countries.
Particular attention was given to practical experience-sharing among countries in the region, professional capacity development, strengthening coordination mechanisms, and establishing sustainable forms of regional cooperation in disaster risk reduction.
Participants also reviewed the experience of the Kyrgyz Republic in disaster risk analysis, monitoring, forecasting, and early warning, including the use of digital information tools and enhanced cooperation between emergency management and hydrometeorological services.
Following the seminar, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter-agency and regional cooperation, systematizing the exchange of knowledge and good practices, and agreed on the immediate steps for project implementation.
The event concluded with the signing of a cooperation document in support of the joint implementation of the “Climate Risk Management” Project in the Republic of Tajikistan.
CESDRR’s participation in the seminar made an important contribution to advancing the regional dialogue on climate risk management and disaster risk reduction, as well as strengthening practical cooperation among the countries of Central Asia.
