The Center’s participation in the meeting organized by the Bureau of National Statistics and UNICEF marked the final stage in the implementation of the joint project.
From 11 to 12 December 2024, an off-site meeting was held in the city of Shchuchinsk, Akmola Region, organized by the Bureau of National Statistics in cooperation with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF). The meeting was attended by members of the working group on the harmonization of indicators characterizing the situation of children in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction presented the results of the development of indicators for the Child Climate Risk Index model, carried out within the framework of the joint project of the Center and UNICEF (WP/KAZ/2024/02). The presentation covered the methodology for developing the set of indicators, key analytical findings, and recommendations for the further use of the Index within the national statistical system and inter-agency planning processes.
This presentation marked the final stage of the implementation of the 2024 project activities of the Center and UNICEF aimed at strengthening inter-agency coordination, introducing tools for assessing climate and environmental risks to children, and enhancing the readiness of government authorities to integrate these risks into policy planning for child protection. The developed model will improve the understanding and management of climate and environmental risks and will contribute to the development of more evidence-based policies and programs focused on protecting and enhancing the well-being of children.
The Center’s participation made it possible to present the final project results to key government partners, obtain feedback, and agree on further directions for the development of the Child Climate Risk Index in Kazakhstan.
