The Center strengthens cooperation with the Akimat of the city of Almaty

On May 13, 2024, the Head of the Department of Seismic Safety and Mobilization Preparation of the Akimat of Almaty, Batyrkhan Suleimenov, visited the Center on a familiarization visit. The meeting was also attended by the Head of the group of Mobilization Preparation and Seismic Safety Temirlan Zhaparbek, the Head of the BDG “Safe City” of the Project Office of the Akimat of Almaty Dana Yeshimova and the General Manager of the BDG “Safe City” of the Project Office Aidarkhan Takuov.

Director of the Center Mr. Aubakirov S.G. presented information on the work done by the Center in the field of seismic safety and disaster risk reduction, including the development of a Prototype for the integration of early warning systems in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan with the ability to connect to elements of a “smart city”.

In turn, Mr. Suleimenov B.A. shared information about the main tasks and priority areas of activity of the newly created Department, emphasized the ongoing work on certification of buildings for seismic resistance, development of an information system for modeling the consequences of earthquakes, development of building rules for the city of Almaty, implementation of the Mass Alert earthquake warning system, training the population in a culture of safe behavior in Emergencies by including the subject “Actions in case of emergencies” in the school curriculum, creating a Scientific Council under the Akimat of Almaty, focused on addressing issues of emergency prevention.

During the demonstration of the results of the implementation of the Center’s projects, the head of the “Safe City” project office, Dana Eshimova, expressed interest in integrating the digital platform “Situation Center of the City of Almaty” (a system for comprehensive monitoring of urban infrastructure) with the GIS platform being developed by the Center “Digital Safety Passport and Interactive Risk Maps of Kazakhstan” ” and proposed holding an online meeting with the participation of developers to determine technical possibilities for integrating systems in the future.

Also, Mr. Suleimenov B.A. expressed interest in regional initiatives and project ideas of the Center and noted the importance of close interaction with the Center in matters of further development and implementation of information and communication technologies, integration of existing seismological monitoring systems in Central Asian countries.

Based on the results of the event, at the proposal of the participants, a decision was made to conclude a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation.
