The Center strengthens cooperation with the OSCE Office in Bishkek

On 21 May 2024, Director of the Center, Mr. Serik Aubakirov, visited the OSCE office in Bishkek on a working visit, where he met with the Acting head of the Department of Economics and Ecology, Mr. Dmitry Prudskikh. The meeting was also attended by the Director of the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Kanatbek Abdrakhmatov and Co-director of the Central Asian Institute of Applied Geosciences Mr. Bolot Moldobekov.

The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the project to create a Regional Emergency Early Warning System for Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The participants exchanged views on the relevance, opportunities and prospects for the implementation of this project.

The Director of the Center informed OSCE representatives that the project idea of ​​the Center received the support of all ministers for emergency situations of the Central Asian countries. This is evidenced by the Appeal signed in November 2024, by the Head of Emergency Authorities of the Central Asian countries to the UN Secretary-General with a request to support the initiative to create a Central Asian early warning system.

Mr. Prudskikh, in turn, emphasized the relevance of the project idea, expressed interest and intention, in collaboration with the OSCE Office in Astana, to take further measures to promote the project, using existing regional programs and OSCE mechanisms.

OSCE representatives also noted that the implementation of the Center’s project will help find solutions to all problem areas identified in the OSCE Report “Regional Consultations on Climate Change and Security in Central Asia.”
