The Center strengthens its capacity in gender approach in emergency situations

From November 28 to 29, 2024, the Center's expert, Z. Yesniyazova, took part in a seminar on a gender approach and prevention of gender-based violence in emergency situations.

The training was organized by UNICEF jointly with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The aim of the workshop was to increase capacity for gender mainstreaming and prevention of gender-based violence in emergency situations, based on the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Security Audit Tool.

The seminar was attended by more than 20 representatives of government agencies, non-governmental organizations and local executive bodies, under the facilitation of international gender expert Valentina Bodrug-Lungu.

The participants of the seminar got acquainted with the provisions on the gender approach and inclusiveness in emergency situations, developed skills in the implementation of a gender approach and the prevention of gender-based violence in emergency situations, based on the GBV safety audit tool, and discussed the prospects for introducing a safety audit tool in the field of gender-based violence in emergency situations into the activities of responsible structures.

The workshop was conducted in an interactive format, focusing on group exercises, case studies and development of recommendations.

The workshop resulted in the identification of priorities for further work, the development of a joint action plan and the development of recommendations for government agencies and non-governmental organizations to ensure gender equality in support of the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030.
