The Center takes part in the Central Asia Climate Change Conference
From May 27 to May 29, 2024, the Central Asia Climate Change Conference is being held in Almaty, organized by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, with the support of key donor organizations, UN country and regional offices in Central Asia.
During the first parallel session “Increasing resilience: responding to natural disasters caused by climate change,” Director of the Center Mr. Serik Aubakirov made a presentation on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for DRR for 2015–2030 in the Central Asian region.
“...The introduction of innovative information and communication technologies in the field of disaster risk management will make a significant contribution to achieving the goals of the Sendai Framework to significantly reduce disaster risk, reduce economic losses and human casualties...” noted Mr. Aubakirov in his speech.
On the sidelines of the Central Asian Conference, the Director of the Center held a working meeting with Mrs. Seval Güzelkılınç - Head of the regional office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for Central Asia, during which the parties discussed the possibility of including a report on the results of the upcoming Regional Forum of the Ministries of NDMA of CA countries research on the effective implementation of the Regional Coordination Mechanism for Emergency Response in Central Asia, prepared by international expert Dr. Carlo de Stefano.
In addition, within the framework of the Conference, a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation was signed between the CESDRR and CAREC.
