The Center took part in the Eighth Meeting of the Regional Expert Group of the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management

The Deputy Director of the Center took part in the Eighth Meeting of the Regional Expert Group of the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM), which took place on December 7-8, 2023 in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan.

This event organized by the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan jointly with the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM).

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the emergency authorities of Bangladesh, India, Iran, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Micronesia, Mongolia, Turkey and Tajikistan, and by the representatives of international organizations.

The main objective of the Regional Expert Group meeting was to promote knowledge sharing, innovative solutions and best practices in disaster management, with a focus on integrating data, technology and policy to improve preparedness, and response capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.

The expert group meeting addressed the intersection of science, policy and action through decision-making, data-informed policy development and the application of technologies and projects in disaster information management.

During the meeting, a presentation was made on the activities of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction in using innovative information and communication technologies in monitoring possible disasters, assessing, analyzing and reducing disaster risk, preventing and responding to emergencies.

The meeting was held in an atmosphere of constructive dialogue, exchange of information and experience, discussion of the situation in the region and identification of the main challenges during the period of increasing impacts of climate change, frequent occurrences of extreme weather and climate events that pose a serious threat to the economic and social development of all countries, as well as life and well-being population.

The Asia-Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) expressed interest in further cooperation with the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction.

It was decided to hold the next meeting in 2024 in Tehran.
