The Center took part in the Third regional seminar on the exchange of experience within the framework of the UNESCO project “Reducing the vulnerability of the population in the Central Asian region from outburst of glacial lakes under climate change”
During the period from 6 to 7 March 2024 in Almaty, the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty organized and held the Third Regional Seminar on the exchange of experience within the framework of the UNESCO-Adaptation Fund project “Reducing the vulnerability of the population in the Central Asian region from the outburst of glacial lakes in the context of changing climate GLOFCA". The event was attended by leading scientists and experts in the field of water security, geography, geology of Central Asian countries, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations.
During the event, the chief expert of the Center, B. Ospanov, informed the seminar participants about the measures taken to create a Central Asian early warning system for transboundary disasters, as well as about projects implemented to improve approaches to monitoring and assessing mudflow hazards in the region.
During the third regional GLOFCA seminar, the latest results of the project in the Central Asian countries were presented, as well as the concepts of early warning systems for mudflow hazards being developed for the pilot areas of the GLOFCA project.
