The Head of the OSCE Program Office in Astana visited the Center

On 10 September 2024, Dr. Volker Frobarth, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, paid a working visit to the Center. During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the ongoing project of the Center and the OSCE to create a Digital Territorial Security Passport and an Interactive Hazard Map of Kazakhstan. The Head of the OSCE Office positively assessed the dynamics of the project implementation, emphasized its relevance and prospects, as well as the possibility of expansion to the Central Asian level.

The Director of the Center, Mr. Serik Aubakirov, in his turn, informed Dr. Frobarth about the results of discussions with representatives of the OSCE offices in Astana and Bishkek, as well as the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction) on the preparation of an application to the OSCE Climate and Security Fund. The application is aimed at implementing a project to establish a Regional Early Warning System for Emergencies for Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

The Head of the OSCE Office in Astana confirmed the interest and intention in collaboration with the OSCE Office in Bishkek to take further measures to promote the project, using existing regional programs and mechanisms of the OSCE.

The parties also recognized the relevance of the support of the OSCE Office in organizing a series of trainings for future users of the Digital Passport from the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan.

In conclusion, the Center voiced its intention to promote the project idea of scaling up these projects at the regional level, which was also echoed and supported by Dr. Frobarth.
