The second meeting of the Technical Working Group on the establishment of a Regional Early Warning System for transboundary emergencies was held
On May 16, 2024, under the paragraph 2 of the Protocol of the Regional Forum - Meeting of Heads of Emergency Authorities of Central Asia (signed on October 6, 2022 in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan) and in order to take further measures for the establishment of the Regional Early Warning System, with the support of UNDRR, UNDP and GIZ the second meeting of the Technical Working Group on the establishment of the Regional Early Warning System and mutual information on the threat and occurrence of emergency situations (TWG) in online format was held.
During the event, the UNDRR National Coordinator in Tajikistan Dilshod Kodirov informed the meeting participants about the results and prospects of the global initiative implementation "Early Warnings for All EW4ALL" in Tajikistan.
Also, GIZ water expert Aigerim Bolatova presented information on the implementation of the GIZ Programme "Climate Risk Management in Central Asia" in terms of establishing a transboundary early warning system for hydrological disasters, and on approaches and problems in the exchange of hydrometeorological information between hydrometeorological services of Central Asia.
During the second session, UNDP International Consultant on Early Warning Vasco Popovski presented the outcomes of early warning system stakeholder mapping for Central Asia and informed TWG members about plans to develop the Concept for the establishment of a Regional Early Warning System for transboundary emergencies.
As a result of the TWG meeting, representatives of UNDP and GIZ proposed to prepare a Resolution taking into account the opinions of national experts - TWG members, reflecting the consistency of goals, objectives, as well as technical approaches in the integration of existing monitoring systems, which will subsequently become an integral part of the expert research conducted by UNDP within the framework of the development of the Concept for the establishment of the Regional Early Warning System.
