Working visit of a delegation from the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO)
On 19 June 2024, a delegation from the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations of the European Commission (DG ECHO) headed by the Director for Neighbourhood, Middle East, South-West and Central Asia Mr. Andreas Papaconstantinou paid a working visit to the Center.
During the meeting, the Center briefed the participants on the implementation of joint projects with partners in the field of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, and presented information on regional initiatives promoted by the Center, including measures taken to improve humanitarian activities in Central Asian countries.
In addition, the Director of the Center Mr. Serik Aubakirov informed the representatives of DG ECHO about the completion of the first phase of the Strategy for Development of Cooperation of CA countries in the field of DRR for 2022-2030, and the transition to the implementation of the second phase of the Strategy under the aegis of "From Awareness to Resilience and Preparedness".
Mr. Andreas Papaconstantinou noted the positive dynamics of the Center in the development of regional cooperation, emphasized the importance of the Center's priorities on disaster preparedness, and noted four directions for the successful implementation of disaster preparedness measures:
- Political will;
- Organizational and operational effectiveness;
- Introduction of modern technologies;
- Funding.
In general, the Director for Neighbourhood, Middle East, South-West and Central Asia expressed his intention to further support the Center in the field of crisis coordination and disaster risk management.
