Experts of Emergency Authorities of Central Asian countries discussed and agreed on measures for the further development and strengthening cooperation in DRR and enhancing preparedness for responding to emergency situations for 2023-2024

Under the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) initiative “Strengthening Resilience to Disasters and Accelerating the Implementation of Sendai Framework for DRR in Central Asia”, funded by the EU, on October 5, 2022 in Dushanbe, under the chairmanship of the Tajik side, meeting of the Working group (experts) of the Regional Forum-Meeting of the Heads of emergency authorities of Central Asian countries was held.

This event was organized by the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction, with the support of the CoES under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Experts of Central Asian countries discussed and agreed on the draft documents proposed for discussion at the upcoming Regional Forum-Meeting of the Heads of Emergency Authorities of Central Asian countries:

1. Review of the implementation of the Action Plan (Roadmap) for the implementation of the Strategy for the development of cooperation between Central Asian countries in DRR in 2022.

2. Draft Action Plan (Roadmap) for the implementation of the Strategy for the development of cooperation between Central Asian countries in DRR for 2023–2024.

3. Draft Regulation on the Regional System of Early Warning and Mutual Information on the threat and emergencies.

4. Draft Action Plan for the introduction of innovative information and communication technologies (GIS, UAVs, mapping) in Central Asian countries for monitoring, forecasting, assessing and analyzing disaster risk.

These papers are based on proposals of international organizations and are aimed at implementing practical measures to develop and deepen regional cooperation in disaster risk reduction and strengthening preparedness to emergency response, especially of a transboundary nature, and also include improving information exchange, joint assessment of disaster risk factors, implementation of programs and projects in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, improving awareness of existing and emerging risks, further development, transition to a new, better level of regional cooperation of Central Asian countries in DRR and emergencies.

Central Asian countries expressed their intent to intensify joint efforts in taking further coordinated measures at the regional level to achieve a better level of regional cooperation between Central Asian countries, which meets the vital interests of the countries of the region in ensuring further sustainable development.
