Local governments of Central Asia meet at a regional meeting on urban resilience within MCR 2030

On December 08, 2022 the Regional Meeting on Making Cities Resilient (MCR 2030) was held on the basis of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction in Almaty, with the support of UNDP, UNDRR and Central Asian governments.

The meeting was attended by representatives of local and emergency authorities of Central Asian countries, experts from the UNDRR, UNDP, the Center. The participants of the meeting got acquainted with the concepts of DRR in cities, with the global initiative "Making cities more resilient to disasters 2030", with the UNDP’s approach to urban resilience, with a review of the process for developing local DRR strategy, with the basics for sustainable cities, with the INFORM sub-regional index for Central Asian countries, with sustainability assessment tools (Scorecard).

During the meeting representatives of the participating cities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan shared best practices.

The meeting was conducted to develop a better understanding of urban resilience needs and priorities, system thinking and an approach to advancing urban resilience approach.
